Cancer and Leo
The Moon and the Sun share a house. One wants the lights dimmed, the other just installed a chandelier.
Together
Neighbors on the wheel, ruled by the two lights of the sky, and more alike than either admits. Both are loyal, both are sentimental, both want a family around the table. The difference is direction. Leo shines outward and wants the table to applaud. Cancer glows inward and wants the table to stay after everyone else has gone.
Leo is fixed and Cancer is cardinal, so Cancer usually decides what happens and Leo decides how it looks. This is a better division of labor than it sounds.
Love
Leo brings the grand gesture, the surprise party, the toast in front of forty people. Cancer would like the same love in a quieter key, at home, with the blinds down. When Leo learns to perform for an audience of one, and Cancer learns to clap where Leo can hear it, this becomes a warm and lasting thing.
Friendship
Cancer feeds Leo. Leo defends Cancer in public at a volume that makes the whole restaurant turn around. Both secretly enjoy it.
Work
Leo is the face of the place, Cancer is the reason the staff stay. Customers come for Leo and come back for Cancer. Credit, as always with Leo, has to be given where everyone can hear.
Where it breaks
Hurt feelings with nowhere to go. Leo roars and is done in ten minutes. Cancer goes silent and is done in three weeks. By then Leo has forgotten the fight and is wounded to learn it is still running.
The frog's verdict
Three stars, warm ones. Leo, ask for the quiet version of praise and accept it when it comes. Cancer, when something stings, name it before the weekend, while Leo still remembers what you mean.
