How the frog reads the sky

Every horoscope on this site starts from the actual sky of the date. The block below is on every page, and any ephemeris will confirm it.

The sky is computed

For each date we calculate, at noon US Eastern, the geocentric positions of the Sun, the Moon and the eight planets: which sign each one is in, to the degree, whether it is retrograde, and the Moon's phase and illumination. This is astronomy, not opinion. The numbers come from the same orbital models that observatories use, and they are the same numbers every astrologer who does their homework starts from.

Aspects

Two planets at a particular angle from each other make an aspect. We use the five classical ones: conjunction (0°), opposition (180°), trine (120°), square (90°) and sextile (60°), with the usual orbs of a few degrees, a little wider for the Moon. Trines and sextiles are the easy angles. Squares and oppositions are the hard ones. A conjunction depends on who is meeting whom. The tightest aspects of the day are the day's weather, and they are what the general horoscope is about.

Solar houses

A horoscope by Sun sign cannot know your birth time, so it uses the oldest shortcut in the trade: your Sun sign is treated as your first house, and the twelve signs that follow it are the twelve houses of your life - money, words, home, play, work, partners, shared things, distance, career, friends, solitude. When the Moon is in Scorpio, it is in the second house for a Libra and the eighth for an Aries. That is why the same Moon makes one sign count their money and another sign count their trust. The frog reads each sign from the house the Moon and the day's planets fall in.

The stars of the day

The rating is not a mood. It is a fixed rule: three stars is an ordinary day. The house the Moon is in moves it up or down. Every aspect to the sign's ruling planet moves it again - easy angles up, hard angles down. A retrograde ruler costs half a star. The result is rounded and clamped between one and five, and the text is written to the number, never the other way round.

What the frog adds

Everything above is mechanics. What the frog adds is the part that cannot be computed: noticing what a Moon in your house of money feels like in a kitchen on a Tuesday, and saying it in a sentence you will remember. She does not predict events. She describes weather and leaves the umbrella to you.

Questions people ask

Is this real astrology or made up?

The sky is real: every position, aspect and retrograde on the site is computed for the date and matches any ephemeris. The reading of it follows the classical rules of Sun-sign astrology - solar houses and aspects. The voice is the frog's.

Why does my sign have one star today?

The rating is a fixed rule, not a mood: the house the Moon is in for your sign and the aspects to your ruling planet move it up or down from three. A one-star day means the sky is hard on your sign today, and the text is written to that.

What time zone is "today"?

US Eastern. The day changes at midnight in New York, and the positions are taken at noon Eastern.

Can I use this to make decisions about health, money or the law?

No. It is entertainment and, with luck, a moment of recognition. It is not advice of any kind.

Does the tarot know my question?

No. You never type it. A card is chosen at random in your browser, and the words you get are the card's traditional keywords and the frog's one line. The reading is yours to do.

What this is not

It is not a forecast, a diagnosis or advice about your health, your money or the law. It is a daily piece of writing built on a real sky, for entertainment and, with luck, for a moment of recognition. If a reading is kind, the sky was. If it is not, tomorrow is already written.
