The High Priestess - tarot card drawn by the frog

Major arcana · II

The High Priestess

Upright

intuition · the unsaid · stillness · what is behind the curtain

The High Priestess sits between two pillars with a veil behind her and a scroll she does not open. She is the card of knowing without proof: intuition, patience, the information that arrives when you stop asking for it. Upright, it advises stillness. Something is not yet ready to be seen, and pulling the curtain early would only show you the curtain. Listen, observe, keep your own counsel.

She knew the answer before the question was finished. She waited anyway.

What do you already know that you are waiting to be told?

Reversed

secrets kept too long · ignored instinct · surface noise

Reversed, the Priestess has lost touch with her own quiet. Instinct is overridden by advice, secrets are kept for their own sake, or the surface is so loud that the depth cannot be heard. It can point to a truth you are refusing to admit to yourself. The card asks you to put down the opinions of others for an hour and see what remains.

She read every book in the room and missed the sound of the rain.

Whose voice have you let drown out your own?
