The Fool

Upright

beginnings · a leap · innocence · the open road

The Fool is the first step before the story has a plot. Numbered zero, the card stands outside the sequence: not yet a beginner, simply someone who has not learned what is impossible. Upright, it speaks of a new road, a leap taken on trust, the freedom of traveling light and the courage that comes from not having read the reviews. It is a card of innocence rather than ignorance - the Fool knows the cliff is there and walks anyway, because the view is better at the edge.

The cliff was always there. Today you looked up.

What would you do today if nobody had warned you?

Reversed

hesitation · recklessness · the step not taken

Reversed, the Fool loses the balance between trust and sense. Either the leap never happens - the bag is packed, the shoes are on, the step is endlessly postponed - or it happens without looking, and the landing is the lesson. The card asks which of the two you are doing: hiding fear behind planning, or hiding carelessness behind courage.

She packed everything and forgot the direction.

Which of your fears have you been calling caution?
