The Empress - tarot card drawn by the frog

Major arcana · III

The Empress

Upright

plenty · nurture · the body · things growing

The Empress sits in a field of wheat with a river behind her and nothing urgent in her hands. She is fertility in every sense: ideas that take root, bodies that are fed, work that ripens because it was tended rather than forced. Upright, the card speaks of plenty that comes through care - of a project, a person, yourself. It favors the senses over the schedule. Eat, rest, make something with your hands.

The garden did not ask whether it deserved the rain.

What would grow if you simply stopped trampling it?

Reversed

neglect · smothering · creative block · empty plenty

Reversed, the Empress is care gone wrong in one of two directions: neglect, where the garden is left to the weeds, or smothering, where nothing is allowed to grow on its own. It can mean creative block, a dependence that has stopped being love, or plenty that does not nourish. The card asks what you are tending and whether it is alive.

She watered the plastic plant for a year and called it patience.

What are you feeding that cannot grow?
